Hornstars are the fully-auditioned big band of the University of Bristol and have been entertaining crowds of students and locals alike since 2007. A regular billing at weddings, balls, parties and student events, the band never fail to get audiences up and dancing with their energetic and varied performances. Around Bristol, the Hornstars have played at Motion, the O2 Academy, Ashton Court, The Station, The Bristol Marriott Royal, The Mud Dock and many more. The band are also regulars for the likes of Itchy Feet, playing in Exeter, Bath, Bristol and Birmingham. As well as performing throughout Bristol and the South West, the band has in recent years toured with BUJO to Croatia, Barcelona, Geneva, Venice and Amsterdam.
The band consists of two vocalists, a five-strong rhythm section, four trumpets, four trombones and five saxes – a formidable lineup producing a professional sound. Set lists are tailored to each gig, with the band playing classics from the likes of Gordon Goodwin, Neal Hefti and Charles Mingus. Our incredible vocalists always go down a storm with songs from Frank Sinatra, Cole Porter and Stevie Wonder to name but a few. The depth of talent in writing arrangements that the band enjoys means that new tunes are often brought in, keeping the set fresh and exciting.
